Dear Meera,
Acceptance is a problem for all of us.
And it is natural that we feel as if we demean ourself when we accept. Because that is where our ego plays.
Dear PF,
You are right. I can advice when it comes to others, as my ego is not in play. But when it comes to me, My ego will come in and play spoil sport.
Dear KSN,
You are right. It is not me who is going to bear the fruition. When I talk about somebody else, my ego is not in play. When it comes to me, ego intervenes and I won't be able to accept.
That is why we need to listen to others, before we take a call.
Yes, life will be hard, if there is a problem with the child is born. But then there are so many parents who suffer with kids who are born with problems. God forbid, but we cannot say if the next kid to be born will be with or without problems.
But this does not mean I am against MTP or pro-life or pro-choice.
I was highlighting the zeal for perfection, by eliminating imperfections, which is wrong.

Dear uropinion,
One intriguing thing that I am not able to find answer anywhere is that the court rejected the petition not on the basis of the law.
It rejected the petition based on medical expert opinion, which was inconclusive. Medical expert opinion submitted to the court was not sure if the child would require cardiac surgery at or after birth or will have serious handicaps.
Based on this medical opinion the court rejected the petition.
Through another prayer, Metha's had requested to amend the law, to allow MTP after 20 weeks, for which the court answered that it does not legislate.
I am not a medical expert. But when I see the news being made out ( by mixing two different requests), I find that the general idea seems to be that niketa's kid definitely has a problem and court has rejected it based on law.
But this kind of opinion is what I assume has not been submitted to court, as court rejected the petition on grounds of inconclusive medical opinion.
So what is the fact here..? I have no idea..
***********
n another note, if this had been 100 years ago or 100 years later, this problem would not exist. Changes in ethical values and legal sytems not keeping pace with medical technologies is the reason for these kind of issues.
Though I am not sure Niketa's case is an example of that.
